Just because there are more of you, do not believe that you will win.... said by the Greeks to the Persians. This is a look at the battles that led to
PersiaWe will rule!
No we will win! We have the spartans!
Although the Persian army outnumbered the Greek army, they underestimated their fighting abilities and lost over 6000 soldiers. Creating the marathon race, they ran 25 miles back to protect Athens.
You are outnumbered !
SO! We are better!
After years, King Darius' son, Xerxes, wanted to seek revenge. It started at Thermopyle where 300 brave Spartans fought to the death to let other Greeks flee.
We will fight till death!
They dont know they are surrounded teeheehee
Persians quickly followed the Greeks back to Athens, but they had already evacuated the city, so Xerxes decides to set fires to burn it down.
Burn it down!
Surprise! The Athenian army was not in Athens, but was by the island of Salamis. The Persian fleet was much larger, yet the Greeks won because of their small, fast, maneuvering boats. Xerxes had to retreat back to Persia.
GO BACK!!!
WE ARE STILL STRONG!
Most of the city-states joined together to form the Delian League and gave Athens money to build up their army and fleet. Well, all except the Spartans.
