A diploid cell has double the number of chromosomes of a haploid cell. In humans a diploid cell contains 46 chromosomes.diploid cells are found all over the body.

A haploid cell has half the number of chromosomes of a diploid cell. In humans a haploid cell contains 23 chromosomes. An examples of haploid cells are sperm and egg cells.

Cells have two sets of chromosomes, one from the mother and one from the father. A homologous pair are two chromosomes that have the same genes on them, but not the same alleles.
