The Mike Douglas Show was a variety show in the 1960s that invited Black entertainers to perform at a time when Black people were underrepresented in media.Jet was a magazine that ran from 1951-2014 and focused on news, culture, and entertainment related to the African American community.

The Gaither sisters love to sing along to Dry Your Eyes by Brenda and the Tabulations, which was a popular song played on the radio in the late 1960s. For the girls, it was a song about their mother leaving and it held special meaning for them.

The Black Panthers was founded in 1966 in Oakland, CA by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale as a reaction to police brutality and systemic racism.It aimed to develop new forms of politics to address poverty and racism.They were also known for militant resistance.
