- The third stage of Erikson's stages of psychosocial development is during the age of 3 and 5 and the individual relatively is in preschool. At this stage, the child begins initiate doing certain tasks by themselves and if done incorrectly, might leave them guilty or having the affect of learning from their environment. An example of this stage is where John is getting mad at Timmy for taking his ball and playing with it.
- Initiative vs. Guilt
- Hey kid! Give me my ball back!

- The fifth stage of Erickson's stages of development occurs at the ages of 12 to 18, this stage is during the adolescence period. During this period, the individual may feel confused on who they really are and how they might fit into society. For example, Derek is playing basketball and he doesn't know if he wants to become a basketball pro or if he wants to partake in doing a 9 to 5 job.
- Identity vs. Role Confusion
- Do I really enjoy play basketball? Is having a 9 to 5 job worth the time? What would people think if I quit play basketball?
- Intimacy vs. Isolation
- The sixth stage of Erickson's stages of development occurs during the young adult hood of ages 19 to 40. This stage is when an individual forms an loving relationships with other people. If successful, it leads to fulfilling relationships, if unsuccessful, it leads to loneliness and isolation. An example is Johnathan, he has tried to have loving relationships but failed every time, leaving him lonely and isolated.
