- Louisiana Purchase - 1803
- Monroe: We would like to buy the Louisiana Territory from the French.French: That would be fine. If your willing to pay 15 million dollars that is!

- In 1803, James Monroe was sent to France by President Jefferson because the French started to control the Louisiana Territory. James worked out a deal with France, to sell the land to America!
- Battle of the Alamo
- Someone needed to explore the new land purchased from France. Lewis and Clark were chosen! On the way, they met Sacagawea and Toussaint Charbonneau. They helped the explorers in many ways.
- Oregon Trail
- President Jackson made a law that the Natives have to move to the reserved areas. The Cherokee tribe fought back in court and they won! Sadly, the tribe still had to move west. The trail they went on is called The Trail of Tears.
- The Gold Rush
- Before 1835, Texas was a Mexican territory. Later, the Texian wanted freedom from the Mexicans and in 1836, they formed the Republic of Texas and fought against Mexico! Most of the soldiers were killed because the rebels were outnumbered. Then the Texians fought again with a bigger army and got independence. Later, Texas joined the U.S.
- The Oregon Trail is the Trail that people went on to get to Oregon. After Lewis and Clark came back, everyone thought the west was full of opportunities. They would fill a wagon with their belongings and either oxen or cattle would pull it. The people walked the whole way!
- One day, a normal man name James Marshall found gold in California. He didn't want word to spread but it did! Soon, people from all over the world were coming to California for the chance to strike rich.
