- Hi! I've heard about UbD, but what does it actually mean?
- First you define the established goals for your students. These are the goals that you create regrading what the students need to learn and be able to perform. Such as, an established goal for math could be students will be able to successfully multiply and divide using 3 digit numbers. The learning goals tells the students what they need to know or be able to do for specific content or terms.

- UbD stands for Understand by Design and has three stages. The 1st stage is Identify Desired Results/Learning Goals! You decide what you're going to teach your students and what they should be able to do by the end of the topic! Ask yourself: What should my students be able to do and know? What are the big ideas? (More to come on that)
- For an example, I can create a quick check on a few multiplication and division questions. Not only does this let the students get a feel of test like questions, but as a teacher it tells you if your students understand the content or if you need to go over it. Feedback and assessment is when you create tests or some type of project to assess their knowledge (the evidence can help guide them). Their scores can tell me if my teaching was effective and how well the students know the content.
- The next stage is Determine Assessment Evidence/Feedback Assessment. This is when you create performance tasks, assessments for students that tells you if your students learned the goal/objective and will help guide your students on what to do (ex: projects lets the students 'showcase' what they know and rubrics and guides can be given to let your student know what you expect they should know about the topic). Other evidence can include drills, exit tickets, and quick checks.
