- The Law of April 6, 1830, banned any additional American colonists from settling in Mexican Territory
- Conventions were held there in 1832 and 1833, as colonists expressed grievances and proposed ways for the Mexican government to better serve the colonies. The Convention of 1832 was comprised of 55 delegates, none of whom were Tejano, representing 16 districts of Texas.
- Believing that he was pushing for Texas independence and suspect that he was trying to incite insurrection, Austin was arrested by the Mexican government in January 1834 in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.
- In December 1835, in the early stages of Texas' war for independence from Mexico, a group of Texan volunteers led by George Collinsworth and Benjamin Milam overwhelmed the Mexican garrison at the Alamo and captured the fort, seizing control of San Antonio
- The Goliad massacre was an event of the Texas Revolution that occurred on March 27, 1836, following the Battle of Coleto; 425–445 prisoners of war from the Texian Army of the Republic of Texas were killed by the Mexican Army in the town of Goliad, Texas.
- Battle of San Jacinto, On April 21, 1836, the defeat of a Mexican army of about 1,200–1,300 men under Antonio López de Santa Anna by about 900 men led by Gen. Sam Houston.
