- Jelly fish are very populated in the Ocean. Their different colors show natural variation in the population. Their home also features predators such as sharks and . The ocean can get extremely cold during the winter and slightly warm during the summer.
- 4: Competition & Natural Selection
- Genetic variation gives all the jellyfish notably different characteristics. The main one is their color, some are purple, some are pink and others are orange. Genetic variation is the genes creating different individuals in the same population.
- 5: Adaptation
- Kicking off, many new baby jellyfishes are born in various amounts of colors. However, it's alarming how many are born aka, overpopulation. Shelter, safety, and especially food will become scarce.
- Evolution Has Occured
- The pink colored jellyfish are easier for their predator, the sharks, to see. The bunnies with the purple color can hide easier and the orange jellyfish cannot camouflage at all. It's a natural selection where the best suited for the blue-ish purple environment will survive and reproduce comfortably.
- Purple-colored jellyfish were more likely to survive and create more offspring than any other. After various years of natural selection, this left most of the population of the new generation to be purple jellyfish. The offspring now carry the heritable trait of purple color, making it easier to adapt and survive in their environment.
- Evolution can happen quickly or slowly in an environment depending on the size of change and genetics in the population. The genetic differences can include long tentacles, different colors, short/long size, big/small top, etc. In this environment specifically, the dominant genetic trait is the purple color. The environment of the purple ocean gives a sort of layout to who can adapt, survive and create offspring.
