- What do you think Anne saw you as?
- I think Anne saw me as a brave girl to her, almost like a mom. Her mother didn't provide the support for her, so I decided to step up and be there for her. I think Anne was very grateful for me and she showed that too. I mean everyday I brought many bags of food to them.
- What was it like to watch Anne and her family in hiding?
- I found it very painful to see a family who would love to go out and live in freedom, to now be sitting in a tiny, cramped place and worrying all the time what the future would hold. It is truly awful to watch people living in fright all of the time. Otto Frank was my boss for many years. Now he was depending on me for everything.
- Was it hard to keep the people in hiding a secret?
- It was not easy to keep the people in hiding a secret. They were always asking questions. But you did not want to answer and upset them with what happened. It was mostly Anne who kept asking and it was her that I told more about the trucks with Jew families being pulled away from being caught and sent to camps.
