- Kent: Is not this your son, my lord? (I.I.8)
- Gloucester: His breeding, sir, hath been at my charge. I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now I am brazed to it. (I.I.9-11)
- King Lear: TELL ME HOW MUCH YOU LOVE ME
- Cordelia: I don't know, I think I love you as much as I should. Moving on.
- King Lear: Here I disclaim all my paternal care/Propinquity and property of blood,/And as a stranger to my heart and me (I.I.114-116)
- Kent and Gloucester have a discussion about Edmund, Gloucester's bastard son, which introduces one of the big issues in the play.
- France: You looked so cool acting like that in front of your dad♡
- Regan, Goneril: Loser. Leave already.
- King Lear demands to know which one of his daughters loves him the most, in order for him to quickly distribute his belongings. He has his mind set on giving Cordelia the most.
- Edmund: Exactly why you should like me better.
- Gloucester: I can not believe Edgar, my real son, would do this to me.
- King Lear becomes enraged when Cordelia does not profess her love in the most extreme way. His anger causes him to disown Cordelia immediately. Kent tries to intervene, but ends up getting banished.
- Goneril: I will not speak with him. Say I am sick. (I. III. 9)
- Oswald: Very well, madam. (I.III.22)
- Lear agrees to a wedding between France and Cordelia, so she sets off to live in her new home. Regan and Goneril show no affection, and let her leave.
- Scene 2: Edmund discusses how he is going to ruin his half-brother, and get as much acknowledgment as Edgar does. He tries to frame his brother Edgar, in front of their father and believes he will get away with it due to Edgar's nobility.
- Scene 3: Goneril and Oswald think of ways to get King Lear to leave their house and not bother them anymore. Goneril thinks it is best to be as rude as possible to him.
