- Malala Yousafzai was born in Mingora, Swat Valley in Pakistan. Malala was a hard working and smart student. Her father Ziauddin was a school teacher. He taught all the children in the neighborhood. He believed all children should be well educated.

- At this time a group called the Taliban was growing powerful in Swat Valley.They believed that girls did not need any other education other than religious education. So they imposed a ban. People could not oppose the ban because those who spoke against them were often killed.

- One day, a BBC urdu journalist, Abdul Hai Kakar approached Ziauddin with a proposal. A student would write a blog about the Taliban in Swat valley. Surprisingly, Malala agreed to do it. She wrote about what she saw feared and felt. The journalist gave her a pen name, Gul Makai.

- The blog bacame very popular and caught the attention of many people around the world. When the Taliban saw that their threats did not silence her, they decided to use violence. on October 9, 2012, a gunman entered her bus and shot her thrice and injured two of her friends.

- She was immediately taken to the military hospital in peshawar. When she did not show any improvement, she was moved to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England. She had instantly become a global mascot of education. After a few weeks of rehabilitation she started walking .

- Malala was then awarded the Nobel Prize. Now Malala leads The Malala Fund (TMF) an organisation that focuses on helping girls go to school. Malala also thinks that simply winning awards wont help Her cause. She urges people to never use age as a barrier for work. She is a beacon of hope in the face of education.
