Storyboard Szöveg

  • On July 10, 1919, the president of the United States, for the first time since 1789, personally delivered a treaty to the Senate. It was the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty of Versailles, signed in 1919, was one of five peace treaties signed after the Central Powers surrendered to the Allies. Germany was forced to acknowledge guilt for the war, pay the other countries for the damage they caused, and reduce the size of its armed forces. It was also forced to return territory it claimed during the war to France, Poland, Belgium, and Denmark. After unsuccessful protests, Germany reluctantly signed the treaty.

  • The American Expeditionary Forces arrived in Europe in 1917 and helped turn the tide in favor of Britain and France, leading to an Allied victory over Germany and Austria in November 1918. By the time of the armistice, more than four million Americans had served in the armed forces and 116,708 had lost their lives. Despite isolationist sentiments, after the War, the United States became a world leader in industry, economics, and trade. The world became more connected to each other which ushered in the beginning of what we call the “world economy.”
