- Louise realizes that her husband's death may be something that she was longing for all this time. Her sister is persisting she open the door.
- Louise, open the door! I beg, open the door--you will make yourself ill. What are you doing Louise? For heaven's sake open the door.
- No! I won't get sick! I'm fine!
- Yesterday, I wished life would be short with him. But now...I pray that life will be longer with him gone. I never really loved him to begin with.
- Free, free, free! Free! Body and soul free!
- Josefine and her sister are coming down from Louise's room. Brently had just arrived, stained from all the traveling, waiting for them at the bottom. Consequently, Louise is brought to her surprise, her heart stops and falls down the stairs.
- We were so worried about you! We thought you were gone!

- The doctor did not make it in time to take care of Mrs. Mallard. She was diagnosed with her heart failing, because of the "joy" that she felt when she saw her husband
