Storyboard Szöveg

  • Here is the letter from them. I am very sorry.
  • You are not to receive the scholarship this morning. When the committee learned that you were colored, they changed their plans.
  • I would put part of the flag salute in my speech. 'Liberty and justice for all'.
  • America is only what we who believe in it make it. I am Irish. Years ago, the mobs rioted against us, and wanted to send us back to where we came from. But we didn't go, and didn't give up. Our power make the American dream come true.
  • We still have in this world of ours democracy to make.
  • I myself will go before the school board to ask that any award that discriminated be eliminated.
  • Friday morning came, the day of the assembly. Miss O'Shay called Nancy Lee in her office again. The vice-principal did not smile.
  • Lift up your head, Nancy Lee, and smile at me.
  • All those who stand against ignorance, narrowness, hate, and mud on stars must be like that.
  • Miss O'Shay turned her back and stood looking out the window. She spoke about her experienced discrimination as a woman of Irish origin. She gave Nancy Lee a motivating speech about how people who are met with prejudice need to work to bring true democracy to the US.
  • I'll fight to see that these things don't happen to other girls... And men and women like Miss O'Shay will help me.
  • There will be other awards. There're schools in other cities. This won't keep me down.
  • Miss O'Shay were completely supportive with Nancy Lee and the colored people democracy.
  • That is the land we must make.
  • ...one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
  • Miss O'Shay let the girl down by not fighting for her to receive the scholarship. Nancy Lee learned that the best fight against discrimination is to believe in herself and stand against the inequality.
  • Nancy Lee did not lose her pride and self-worth, but she became determine to fight when she is a woman. She became sure people like Miss O'Shay will help her.
  • She understood that this will be her fight. The racism and any injustice are happening, but must be overcome and one day America will one nation with liberty and justice for all - as the oath says.
