- During the covid 19 pandemic we were given free vaccinations at our school to protect us from getting covid or from getting it bad. With the original dose, the immune system is primed to recognize and produce antibodies against the virus it was created to defend. Booster shots are administered to remind the body's immune system about the virus it needs to defend against. This improves or gives the immune system a boost.
- Pathogens are microbes that cause diseases. Vaccines allow a dead or altered form of the disease causing pathogen to be introduced into the body, which contain a specific antigen. This causes the immune system, specifically the white blood cells, to produce complementary antibodies, which target and attach to the antigen. When a white blood cell engulfs and digests a pathogen it is called phagocytosis
- When Edward Jenner was just a young boy there was a huge outbreak of small pox in his village. It was awful. Him and some other young boys were sent to be given the small pox because they thought that if the were to give you small pox you may not get it again or as bad. One of the boys next to Edward died in the night. It was at that moment that Edward knew that there had to be something better to prevent the spread of small pox.
