- 2500 years ago you would have a cleandros walk you to school. You'd walk through markets in the agora. In the market was a man with a rope painted in red. People would run around trying to avoid it. They did that so that the people who don't want to go to the assembly get marked in red, so if they try to join the assembly they can't join. They get fined.
- Back 2500 years ago an agora would be used to hold an assembly. The agora is a big wide open space. The agora has markets inside of it.
- An assembly was an opportunity for men to speak their minds and exercise their voting.
- Back in ancient times, Athens would lead a relaxed life. They thought that their life was too valuable to be working. They would spend most of their time at the agora.
- Some people get painted in red with the rope because they decide to. They only do that because they don't want to go to the assembly. They would rather stay at the markets and gossip.
- Back then, in each household their would be 3 to 4 slaves. The slaves would enjoy freedom more than anyone elsewhere. Slavery was wide spread.
