  • This is city is not only home to billionaires and millionaires but also for a densely populated slum called Dharavi, widely considered the largest slums of Asia.

  • Generally people anticipate that the people living in Dharavi are away from the basic necessities like clean water, education and electricity.

  • What percentage of Dharavi is illiterate?
  • Almost 70 percent. But parent do feel that their child should go to school and attain education to live a better life.
  • The monthly wage of people varies from 3000- 8000 rupees per month. How much work they do doesn't matter, they get fixed salary at the end of the month. They live with water upto knee if it rains heavily. They don't have access to clean water and 24 hour electricity.
  • Ultimate message
  • People living in slums may be poor but they are happy. They have every right to have basic necessities to be fulfilled. Money is not everything. We can be happy in sharing
  • Despite of their conditions they treated all with eatables and tea.
  • We are happy. To shift we need money which we don't have. If we have money definitely we will try to get out of these place.

  • Fareesa, a preschool teacher describes about Bakrid and status of education in Dharavi. Though they are good in studies and afford better education in private schools, these schools don't give admission to candidates coming from Dharavi.
