- Johnny and Pony have this special bond, the two very good pals are each others’ family. They ran away together after Darry (Ponyboy's brother) impulsively slapped Pony. In this scene, they take a break in the park after running for some time.
- Johnny experienced an attack once before and didn’t need to live through it again; He found the strength to save Pony and himself by killing Bob, his actions scared away the rest of the Socs.
- I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade… they were gonna beat me up….
- Many of the greasers don't have supportive families, unlike the Curtis', so when the night is rough they go to their house.
- “Our front door is always unlocked in case one of the boys is hacked off at his parents and needs a place to lay over and cool off.” There anybody could come in anytime, hit the hay, grab a bite, read the paper, or just socialize as they please.
- Ponyboy was just discharged from the hospital, waiting for his brothers and Johnny's current condition. He is dazed, worrisome, and feeling alone at this point
- Ponyboy reunites with his brothers and reconciles with Darry over their rocky relationship. Pony realizes how much love and support is transmitted between them and discovers his true love for Darry.
