- "Beware Macduff! Beware Thane of Fife!" (IV.i.81,82)
- "Horrible sight! Now I see 'tis true" (IV.i.137)
- Macbeth is greeted by a 4th apparition and becomes shaken at his future as king of Scotland.
- "He killed me, mother. Run away! I pray you." (IV.ii.96,97)
- Lady Macduff and her son are murdered after they were warned by Ross.
- Malcolm tests Macduff's loyalty to him by saying things that are false to see how he might react to them.
- "Such welcome and unwelcome things at once" (IV.iii.157)
