  • After Hitler became Chancellor in 1933, on February 1933 the Reichstag building was set on fire. Hitler claimed it was done by the communist Van De Lubbe. Hitler used this to his advantage to gain power and support for the Nazi party.

  • Hitler held a general election in 1933 in hoped to win the election, but only 44% of people voted for him. Therefore he arrested 81 people from his opposition, which gave him the majority.
  • With the commotion of the fire, it allowed Hitler to pass the Enabling Act in March 1933. The law meant Hitler was able to rule as a dictator with emergency powers for four years.
