Storyboard Szöveg

  • Scene 1: New Opportunities
  • Back in the 1980's...
  • There's this new opportunity for work as an officer for the RCMP. I think it would be a great fit for me!
  • That sounds exciting! you should definitely apply for it!
  • Scene 2: A tough choice
  • Hi there, I would like to apply for the RCMP office opportunity.
  • We do no accept men with turbans due to safety reasons. If you would like to be considered for this opportunity you will need to get rid of the turban.
  • Scene 3: Unfair World
  • Well there's nothing we can do about it as of now, it's the RCMP's policy.
  • No, they said I can't work as an officer because of my turban
  • Did you get the job?
  • That's no fair, a turban is apart of our religion. You should not be discriminated against because of this.
  • In the 1980s, the RCMP had a policy prohibiting Sikh officers from wearing turbans while on duty. We can see critical race theory in action here. According to Critical Race Theory, racial and ethnic prejudice and discrimination are embedded in institutionalised ideologies and practises, not necessarily in the conscious actions of individuals. From this perspective, is it possible in principle for members of majority groups to be prejudiced against members of minority groups while legal, educational, health, and other institutions operate in a way that discriminates against the minority group, and many members of the minority group to be prejudiced against minority group members.
  • Scene 4: Discrimination in 2021
  • Baltej Singh Dhillon had to choose between serving his nation and wearing his turban when he was admitted into the RCMP. He shouldn't have to make this choice, and he wouldn't have to make it if the world were free of racism.
  • Scene 5: No Tolerance for Racism
  • He chose to fight for his religious rights, through protests. However, it was not until almost 10 years later in 1990, the federal government finally removes the ban preventing Sikhs in the RCMP from wearing turbans. We can clearly see here that organizational policies and practices systematically discriminated against Baljeet Singh Dhillon because he was a Sikh wearing a turban, this is called institutional racism.
  • Scene 6: A Racism Free World
  • I apologize for your treatment, you are welcome here anytime!
  • People are still being treated unfairly due of their group memberships and religious affiliations 30 years later, in 2021. This is referred to as discrimination.
  • I'm so excited to get myself a warm coffee
  • take that scarf hat thing off your head or go back to your country. You will not be served with that on your head.
  • Now in 2021....
  • Discrimination is still seen and felt in today's society, but it is not tolerated. The server was clearly prejudiced and antagonistic toward Baljeet Singh because of his group membership and the fact that he was a Sikh wearing a turban; this is known as racism.
  • I just got a complaint from a customer about you being racially discriminating your fired!
  • Even if times have changed and racism has grown less acceptable, racism continues to be a problem in our society today, it ruins memories, days and lives. Many individuals throughout the world are victims of racism for no cause, and regrettably, not all victims will speak up and fight back. We should treat people how we want to be treated.
