- The man's name was Arthur Joseph Kelly. Growing up, he wanted to be a firefighter. When he was a child he would go to the firehouse at Aberdeen and Washington, the home of Engine 34.
- Arthur Joseph Kelly became a teenager, and then a man, and he never quite had what it takes to be a firefighter. He didn't make it. He did make it into the Army. He was a private in World War II
- The war ended and they placed him in a military hospital but he was not helping, the train passed by and he got scared and threw himself on the ground, the other people just laughed at him

- After leaving the hospital, he returned to the only place where he remembered being happy. return to the fire station there the firefighters took care of Arthur and many took care of him voluntarily.
- Once Arthur went to a cubs game. A car back fired , He it the ground. There was some snickering.after that he stayed near the fire station. His mind and nerves were not right, firefighters had to remind him to bathe, change clothes and eat properly for about 20 years. the station closed and they were transferred to another place but Arthur did not like the place.
- After a long list of firefighters who looked after Arthur one after another, he died. He was found dead in his room, some thoughthe was a homeless man. Arthur Joseph Kelly was buried with dignity. He was carried to his grave by uniformed firefighters.
