- Vlez, do you know that plant and animal cells differ in many ways?
- Yes, of course. First, animal cells have centrosomes or a pair of centrioles but this do not exists in plant cells.
- Second, unlike the animal cells, plant cells have cell walls, cholorplasts and other specialized plastids, and a large central vacuum, which are not found in animal cells.
- Well,can you enumerate some because this week that would be one of our topics too.
- Animal cells have lysosomes that serves as garbage disposal, whereas, in plant cells, the garbage disposal takes place in vacuoles.
- Wow, interesting! What else Vlez ?
- Is that all the difference between animal and plant cells?
- Dawn, take note that plant cells have chloroplasts which contain a green pigment called "Chlorophyll" that allows them to harness life-energy and turn it into chemical energy for the cell. This is not present in animal cells/
- Dawn, before I forgot, I would like to mention another one , which I missed to enumerate. Plant cells have plasmodesmatas. These are numerous channels that passed between the cell walls of adjacent plant cells connecting their cytoplasm and enabling signal molecules and nutrients to be transported from cell to cell.
- On the other hand, animal cells have tight junctions that are watertight seals between two adjacent animal cells that prevent materials from leaking between the cells.
