- I'm Sanger Rainsford of New York. I'm hungry.
- Whitney and Rainsford are on a boat headed to Rio. They talk about jaguars and hunting. They then pass a mysterious island, Ship-trap island. After a while, Whitney decides to go to sleep. Rainsford stays up to smoke his pipe.
- I hunt the most dangerous game!
- He hears a gunshot and falls off the boat attempting to reach for his pipe. He swims for a very long time and finally reaches the shore of Ship-Trap island.
- After resting, Rainsford woke up feeling a sharp hunger. He looked around for food where he heard pistol shots. The night came and Rainsford noticed some lights nad headed towards them. He then discovered it was a building. Ke knocks ond door and meets Ivan, and then later, General Zaroff.
- General Zaroff offers Rainsford clothes, dinner, and rest. At the dinner table General Zaroff hints at Rainsford at what he hunts on the island, 'a more dangerous game'. After sleeping uncomfortably that night, Rainsford demands to leave the island. The general begins a hunt between the two.
- Rainsford begins to make traps for General Zaroff. The first trap was Malay Mancatcher, which injured General Zaroff's shoulder. Then, he made a Burmese Tiger Pit. This claimed one of the general's best dogs. Lastly, he did a native trick he learned from Uganda, and. This trick killed Ivan.
- General Zaroff went to his room for bed then noticed Rainsford behind the curtains while looking out the window. He congratulates Rainsford for winning. Rainsford says, I am still a beast at bay Get ready, General Zaroff. Whoever was killed was going to be fed to the hounds. Rainsford decides that he had never slept in a better bed.
