- Due to horrible grades, Greg's dad lectured him about how If he had half the chances Greg had.... Two days later, it was raining, and Greg thought about studying, but instead, went for a walk outside. He noticed that the abandoned house's door, once boarded over was slightly open. Slowly and secretively, he went inside, just as a flash of lightning struck near him.
- Falling Action
- They sent back what he had with him, and it was this mouth fiddle. Him carrying it around with him like that told me that it meant something to him. It was my treasure, and he treated it just like that, at treasure. Aint that something?
- Greg heard a scraping noise, and his stomach tightened. Then he heard a scratchy noise saying, Don't try nothing 'cause I have a razor that can cut a week into nine pieces! The old man that said this stepped forward, revealing a man covered in rags, and had dirty shoes. Greg realized that the old man was homeless, and unarmed. The old man revealed to Greg that he had a valuable treasure. Lemon Brown (the old man) was a former blues singer. Soon afterwards, some thugs broke in, as they learned Lemon Brown had a treasure. Eventually, after lots of confusion and distress, they ran out. Greg again asked about the treasure.
- Resolution
- I'm not thinking about how late it is.
- Because Greg asked about the treasure, Lemon Brown took out a piece of plastic. He opened it revealed a badly dented harmonica, and newspaper clippings. There it be; there it be. said the old man. Greg gave him a confused look and read the clippings. The clippings were about Lemon Brown's career as a blues singer. He was the hit of the show multiple times.
- Theme
- Lemon brown then spoke. I used to travel around to make money to feed my wife and my son Jessie-that's my boy's mane. Used to feed 'em good, too. Then his mama died. Later, he grew up to be a man and fought in the war. I gave him the thing that told him who I was, and what he came from. I said. If your pappy did something. you can too. He went to war, and I went playing, and singing. One day, when I returned home, I got a letter saying Jesse got killed in the war. Broke my heart, really did. They sent his possessions back and it was this mouth fiddle. Him carrying it around with him like that told me that it meant something to him. It was my treasure, and he treated it just like that, at treasure. Aint that something?
- Yes.
- Is it worth fighting for? Against armed robbers?
- After this, he left the abandoned home. The night warmed, and the rain ceased. Greg, when he was returning home, didn't even think about how late it was. He knew what he would greet when he came home, and wondered if his father should be informed about Lemon Brown. He decided against it, pushed the doorbell, thought of the lecture he would get, and smiled.
