- We confess our transgressions to God and His Church when we make amends (confession). We atone for our past wrongdoings, receive the unwavering forgiveness of Christ and His Church, express our sorrow (contrition) in a meaningful way, and vow to behave better going forward (penance).
- Theologians view Jesus' crucifixion as a divine intervention that should restore the covenant between God and man, which was broken by the fall of man. As a result, the cross can be seen as a symbol of hope, signifying God's atonement for sins and reconciliation with humanity.
- According to the Bible, God was bringing everything back into alignment with himself through Jesus. Jesus made it possible for us to live in right relationships with one another, the rest of creation, and ourselves by restoring our right relationship with God.
- It can also mend broken relationships and create bridges between conflicting groups. It can assist in ending the cycle of violence, post-traumatic healing, creating a more peaceful future for everybody, and eventually maintaining peace.
