- In 1862 James went west alone at the age of 16 to be a cattle rancher in the great plains and to get free land with the Homestead act .when he got to the great plains he was ecstatic. He was ecstatic because he loved his new job as a farmer so much. He loved his job as a farmer a little too much. He likes it so much he gets too carried away farming that he completely forgets about his job as a cattle rancher.
- Man i need to grab this carrot and fast.
- DURING HIS TIME ON THE FARMHe was so busy with farming that he didn't see the cattle escape and when he did notice he messed up his farm by accidentally dragging his hoe across the crops. he was devastated about it. Now it's not only escaped cattle it's also a destroyed farm.
- Here boy, come get the carrot
- suddenly the cattle tried chasing him so he tried to sprint for his house but the cattle were just too fast and caught up to James. The cattle plowed him in the stomach. It hurt so bad because the cattle's horns punctured Jameses stomach and blood started rushing out but he was able to push the cattle away and got inside his house.
- Lets hope that dosent happen again
- As blood dripped from his stomach, he thought he wouldn't make it so he bandaged himself up in hope of not dying. Then he ran to his kitchen to grab a carrot to hopefully calm his cattle down and lure them to their pen with the carrot.
- He grabbed the carrot and sprinted back outside to lure the cattle back to its pen because a part of the fence was destroyed because when the cattle escaped, they had trotted over the fence. He succeeded in luring the cattle back to its pen. When he succeeded, he gave the cattle more food so it would be busy so he could rebuild the fence.
- He successfully lured the cattle back to its pen and rebuilt his farm. He realized that he needs to pay more attention to his cattle. He knew this wouldn't happen again or did he.
