- At the beginning of the story, (150 years into the future from today) we start with Valencia (Cia) Vale and her mother, straightening her daughter's hair before the big ceremony of Graduation Day. With Cia worrying about the chances that she will not get picked to go to the testing this year and stay with her parents like all the other High School students.
- Final Test
- A day later, the Commonwealth selects 4 candidates for the testing, Cia being one of them. Having a few hours to say goodbye to her family and pack her belongings, she goes to the gathering place and enters the skimmer ( A vehicle that is capable of hovering over the ground). While being transported over to the testing site, Cia notices a camera at the side of the vehicle. Not wanting to draw attention, she quickly looks away and keeps it to herself. For now.
- The Ending?
- Why are you helping me? Why are you doing this?
- For this to finally stop, no more casualties.
- An announcement has been made to the students, all wrong answers will be penalized. Cia and her companions are walked over to a room filled with tables and boxes. The objective is to find what is within the boxes and to determine if the plants inside the boxes are poisonous or edible. Cia successfully finishes her assignment and while waiting for the time to finish, she sees a classmate of hers get impaled by a nail to the eye. Wrong answers will get penalized.
- The Interview

- Testing Interview
- So, can you tell me about your family Valencia?
- After finally realizing that "The Testing" isn't really what it seems, being sent to the middle of nowhere, with 80 other candidates left. Cia partners up with a classmate she knows from grade school named Tomas. It takes them a while to get to each other with the reason being both of them were 20 miles away from each other from the start. After getting together, they set up camp in an abandoned building, while soon after they hear a gunshot in the distance.
- Why don't you go to sleep, Cia? I'll keep watch to make sure nothing happens
- What was that noise?!
- Bang!
- Towards the end of the story, Cia meets this mysterious man on the side of the road. Claims to be a member of a group going against the Commonwealth. He and the others want the Testing to stop. He gives Ci and her partner food and supplies, while also telling them about the end of the testing interview. They give the candidate a special drug to make them tell the truth on one of the questions. He offers a vial filled with a liquid which he claims to have a counteracted with the honesty drug the government gives them. Cia hesitates but takes the vial.
- After finally reaching the finish line, Cia gets sent to a room to get interviewed, mark her adventure in history. But right before she enters the room, she drinks the vial. Unsure what it's contents might do to her, it's already too late. They offer a drink at the beginning of the session, she drink it and feels all relaxed and fuzzy, "The truth serum". The testing official asks Cia about her family and what they do for the community and some other questions. They specifical ask about her relationship with Tomas, she replies as him being a very good friend to her and what would happen if she gets admitted to collage but he doesn't, she doesn't answer and the session was over. They inject a syringe in her afterwards. Unconscious.
