- Our story begins in 460 BC in a restaurant where a man named Democritus has ordered a large block of cheese
- Argh this block of cheese is to much food for me maybe I should cut it down by halves in till...
- Then... He realized
- What if I just keep cutting then then eventually it will be to small to cut what should I call something of that size
- And thus the Atomic Theory began
- After much thought and consideration he named them...
- Atomos meaning uncuttable in Greek
- John Dalton was looking for a model for his version of the atomic theory
- One day in 1802 a scientist studying the atom named John Dalton was subbing for a coach at a soccer practice
- Ok guys lets get the balls out
- His theory was that all matter was composed of atoms, indivisible and indestructible building blocks
- After coaching he realised that a soccer ball was the best model for the atom
- Later changing the name to the billiard ball model John Dalton made the first major change to the atomic theory
- My model of the atom is a sphere old chum
- Very good old chap
