- Odysseus is a leader of a crew of men as well as the new king of Ithaca stated on page 1110, "I am Laertes' son, Odysseus." (Homer 1110). He's trying to get back to his home on Ithaca. Alas, him and his men drifted out at sea for 9 days, but soon drifted to a coastline of lotus eaters.
- Unmatched Warrior
- His men find a cave that belongs to a powerful Cyclops that begins to devour his men one by one. Odysseus thought of a plan to help them escape the cave. It would have to do with telling the Cyclops his "name". (Homer 1118)
- Battles Supernatural Forces
- His plan works, he told the Cyclops his name was "Nohbdy" and blinded him. Him and his men snuck out of the cave, bringing sheep and rams with them, getting ready to set sail on their adventure home, again.(Homer 1120)
- While on the ship Odysseus shouts to the Cyclops as he sails away, he yells "'Cyclops, if ever mortal man inquire how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: Laertes' son whose home is Ithaca!'" (Homer 1122). Little did Odysseus know, this was a great mistake..
- The Cyclops prayed to his father, Poseidon. He prayed that Poseidon would never let Odysseus return to Ithaca, and for him to suffer for blinding Polyphemus the Cyclops. Poseidon fulfilled his son's demands and sent a storm Odysseus' way. Causing Odysseus and him men to be stranded at sea once again. (Homer 1123).
