Adults either hit the dolls aggressively or acted in a nice respectful way as 36 boys and 36 girls watched.
The kids imitate their actions and either strike the bobo doll aggressively or if they belong to the non-aggressive group, do so with almost no aggressiveness. However it is shown that the children are more likely to imitate the behaviour of the adults of the same gender.
Bandura's Bobo doll research 1963
He carried out research that has 3 separate conditions. One of which was you would be rewarded if you acted aggressively.
The second one was for the aggressive behaviour there is a punishment and third had no consequences.
strengths: reliable, good control of IV's, establishes cause and effect
Usually because of the same gender the children would imitate the actions. Children in the model-rewarded condition were more likely than those in the model-punished condition to mimic aggressive behaviour. The results point to vicarious reinforcement.
