Good morning, my wife and I are concerned about my daughter's progress in school.
Could you explain to use a little bit more about ways for our daughter to be tested for services to receive assistance in class?

Under the IDEA ACT there are six principles that we utilize that guarantees the specific rights and protections of students.

All students have the right to a FAPE. Which stands for a Free, Appropriate and Public Education.
Is there a cost for testing my child?

Students with disabilities are available to have the right to a free and appropriate education tailored to their needs.

Will my daughter have the same rights as other peers her age?
Yes, ma'am she will have the same rights as her non-disabled peers. Each school must accommodate their individual needs and help them plan for the future.

Under the IDEA ACT the child find process allows procedures to be put into place to ensure that the students who are receiving special education services are provided based on evidence from interventions and their individual needs to be addressed. So we will utilize screening data to see if your child meets the child find requirements.
Do we need to take her to a specialist to be identified?

Under the IDEA ACT, students will receive an IEP. This is an individualized education plan. This plan creates an opportunity for school administrators, teachers, parents, school administrators related service personnel administrator school improvement administrators, and students (when appropriate) to work together to improve educational results for children with disabilities.
How will our daughter receive instruction?

Will our daughter be able to attend regular classes?
The IDEA ACT states that all students should be educated with their non-disabled peers to the maximum extent appropriate.

How long before we can apply for services?
We will pull your daughter in for a Comprehensive assessment that is designed to identify the child's specific educational needs.

How will they score her?
The test will be free of bias, it will also utilize multiple methods of assessments that will be conducted by a team of qualified professionals.

Is there anything that we can do?
As parents you have the right to be involved in the process.

When will we find out about the decision?
The school follows a specific process. The school has 25 days to respond to the referral in writing. If they proceed with the evaluation, they will have 35 school days to complete the assessment.
