The Pardoner's Tale

- As they set out to find the traitor Death, the three pardoners met an old man on their journey. He claimed that he saw Death by an oak tree.
- And they did as the old man said.
- Old man, tell us where to find Death, or else!
- You must follow the crooked path to the oak tree. May God save you!
- And how must we do that?
- Though, as soon as they reached the oak tree, they did not find a traitor, but rather heaps of gold and riches. They agreed to split the riches among the three of them. But even when they separated to bring food to eat, the three scoundrels' greed had taken over.
- Well, you see...
- Say, why don't we split the money between just the two of us?
- Little did they know about each other's treacherous plans...
- To have those riches all to myself! Luckily I have a plan...
- They would pass a few minutes after. And at last, they have truly found Death.
- And as the youngest of the group returned, they immediately killed him with a dagger. And to celebrate, they drank the poison he had brought from town, mistaking it for wine.
- I don't feel so good...
- Let's make merry! We have the gold all to ourselves!
