- Oh no, I've done another bad thing. I didn't mean to hurt her.
- George is going to be really mad at me. He's not going to let me tend the rabbits.
- I need to go hide by the river where he told me too. Then, I'll go off and live in a cave so I can't cause more trouble.
- Lennie
- I better go to the bunkhouse so they guys don't think I was in on this. I need to protect Lennie.
- I need to get a gun so the guys won't torture Lennie. He doesn't need to die while suffering.
- George
- He didn't mean to do it. Once he holds on to something he can't let go.
- Lennie is always causing me so much trouble. Everytime life is going good for me, he does something bad to make us run away. If I didn't have to take care of him, I could live a peaceful life, and make enough money to live on my own.
- George
- You have to remember that Lennie has the mind of a child. When he does things, he doesn't think about what he's doing. Remember that Lennie's aunt CLara told you to take care of him. You need to be patient and calm with Lennie like you would be with a child.
- Well, suppose George went into town, and never came back. What would you do if you never seen him again. Suppose he got killed or something on the way back. Then what would you do?
- Crooks
- It was just a hypothetical question. I'm sorry for scaring you. George is on his way back from town.
- What do you mean?! What happened to George?! He's not hurt is he?
- Lennie
