In 1969, FFA opens membership to females, making it possible for them to hold office and participate in competitive events at regional and national levels. This event very significant as it opened new doors and opportunities to young women and gave them the opportunity to achieve their goals.

In 1953, National FFA Secretary Fred McClure from Texas is the first African American elected to a national FFA office. This is an important event in FFA history because McClure becoming FFA secretary gave inspiration to many others and changed FFA to make it what it is today.

In 1976, Julie Smiley from Washington is elected national FFA vice president and is the first female to hold a national FFA office. This was a very important event in FFA history because Smiley influenced many women and gave them the strength and courage to work hard to achieve their dreams.
