  • Having access to clean drinking water is very important. Without clean drinking water, we'd all be very sickly and probably not survive very long. This is why I have ranked it first, and since many countries still lack access to clean water, their death rates are significantly higher.
  • It tastes so fresh!!! I am so fortunate to live in a country with clean water.
  • Income is the second most important ranked item on this list. Without income, there is no food on the table, clothes, and housing. Without income you have practically nothing, but income can also be more beneficial if you have an education. In less fortunate countries, they get by with a lot less than we have in Canada, and are forced to accept what they have in poverty.
  • I am glad that both of us can work and support ourselves and our families!
  • Iceland
  • Literacy rate is the third most important ranked on this list. Without any literate population, there would be less job opportunities and even less people making substansial money. However, you can get a job without being literate, but not in first world countries. In countries where the minimum wage is about 5 cents (CAD) an hour, there is no way they can afford a good education and find a good job in the near future. However, literacy is also important for basic things, not just jobs.
  • Access to education is the fourth most important ranked on this list. Access to education is the second least important due to the fact that the other factors are simply more important. If we are talking about Canada and other first world countries, education would be the most important since we already have clean water. But, in general, income can be made without a proper education. Unless someone from a third world country simply can't get by with those 5 cents an hour and they want a better education, there are sometimes some good job opportunities in third world countries.
  • Life expectancy is the least important ranked on this list. The life expectancy isn't really that important in general, because determining how many people live to a certain age doesn't say a great deal about a certain country, besides the disease control and death rates. In lower ranked countries on the HDI scale, the life expectancy is inevitably going to be lower, due to the fact that it most likely does not meet every resident's basic needs.
  • Life expectancy (at birth): 83.0 years
  • Population with full 19 years of schooling: 100%
  • Drinking water source: 100% of the population (total)
  • Literacy rate: n/a (100% of the population)
  • GNI (Gross National Income):54,682
