  • Today were going to tackle about the phases of Meiosis
  • Meiosis is a nuclear reduction division in which the amount of hereditary material in each gamete is reduced to half that of the parent cell. A diploid nucleus divides twice, one after the other.
  • So first, what is Meiosis
  • Prophase 1This phase duplicating homologous chromosome pair up and exchanging information or segment. Crossing over occurs in Chiasmata
  • So now that we know the Meiosis, let's tackle about the 1st phase in Meiosis I of it which is Prophase 1.
  • Metaphase 1Chromosomes will line up now by homologous pairs. The two chromatids of the two homolog are attached on kinetochore microtubules from one pole and the other one is attached to the opposite side.
  • Next to Prophase 1 is Metaphase 1.
  • Anaphase 1This part homologous chromosome of each pair will separate. Proteins will responsible for separation of sister chromatid along with chromatid arms, moving to opposite poles andguided by spindle apparatus
  • Next to Metaphase 1 is Anaphase 1.
  • Telophase 1 and CytokinesisTwo haploid cell form will be seen and each chromosomes still consisting of two sisters chromatids. No duplication will occur between Meiosis 1 and Meiosis 2
  • Next to Anaphase 1 is Telophase 1 along with Cytokinesis which is the last phase for Meiosis 1.
