- Ariel, her 6 sisters, and her friend named Flounder, live under the sea in the kingdom of Atlantica wherein her father is the King of Atlantica, and Sebastian, a crab, is his assistant and advisor.

- Ariel is a mermaid who enjoys collecting items humans use. She would frequently visit Scuttle, a seagull, to describe and inform her about the items she collected.

- Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian travel to the ocean surface to watch a celebration for the birthday of Prince Eric. During a storm, Eric goes back to rescue his dog, Max. He almost drowns but is saved by Ariel, who drags him to the beach. Prince Eric vows to find Ariel.
- Ariel then goes to the sea witch, Ursula to make a deal that would help her turn her tail into legs. Ursula gave her a potion, however, Ariel was told to give her voice to Ursula and to kiss Prince Eric or else in three days she will turn back into a mermaid and become Ursula's slave.
- Ariel gets to spend time with Eric however Ursula takes the disguise of a woman named "Vanessa" and appears onshore singing with Ariel's voice. Vanessa/Ursula casts a hypnotic enchantment on Eric to make him forget about Ariel.
- With the help of Triton, they were able to defeat Ursula! Ariel was willingly turned into a human by her father and was able to marry Eric. King Triton places a rainbow over the boat and everyone lives happily ever after!
