- On April 25th, 1986 Chernobyl's operators began reducing the power to reactor number 4 for a safety test. The test was supposed to be done for maintenance and determine if in the event of a power outage, the turbines would still be able to produce enough coolant.
- Later that day the safety test is started and reactor 4's emergency core cooling system is stopped to keep it from interfering with the test. The test is then delayed to accommodate the regions factory needs.
- Okay... I have never learned how to properly run a safety test though. I havn't worked here very long.
- The power then plummets and the reactor is unstable. The operators remove the control rods which violates safety guidelines. Eventually power stabilizes and the test is ordered to continue
- "We are going to continue our test it is now your job to continue the safety test. "
- The power surges and an operator pushes the emergency shutoff button but the control rods jam in the core. An explosion happens and it blows the roof off the reactor. Multiple fires start and fireman and police show up to help unaware of the deadly radiation. The nuclear engiuneer tried to convince people that the reactor was still intacted and died of radiation poisioning soon after. A meeting was held and the decided to block cars from entering and exciting Pripyat, the nearby city.
