- Biogeography is the study of the patterns of geographic distribution of organisms and the factors that determine those patterns.
- A large-scale example of biogeography includes the splitting of Pangea (all the Earth's continents were one large land mass). This can be seen in the differences between old world monkeys that live in the eastern hemisphere and new world monkeys that live in the western hemisphere
- Molecular biology is the study of the molecular underpinnings of the biological phenomena, focusing on molecular synthesis, modification, mechanisms and interactions.
- Examples of molecules that have been used to study evolution are cytochrome c, which is vital to the respiratory pathway, and ribosomal RNA, which performs protein synthesis.
