- Tom and Nick are on the train and are stopping at the Valley of Ashes to meet Tom's mistress, Myrtle. (page 24)
- "Her laughter, her gestures, her assertions [have become] more violently affected moment by moment"
- Tom and Nick are in George's (Myrtle's husband) shop to go and get Myrtle. (page 26)
- They'd be married already but his wife is a Catholic and they don't believe in divorces
- You know Tom and Myrtle "can't stand the person they're married to"
- Daisy is no Catholic. I can't believe Tom lied
- After leaving the Valley of Ashes, Myrtle, Tom, and Nick go to Tom's apartment in New York. Myrtle began to invite many people over. (page 28-29)

- A little bit after the phone calls, the guests arrive to the apartment and Myrtle began to change her character as the people arrive. (page 30-31)
- After a little while into their get together, Catherine, Myrtle's sister, is talking to Nick about how Tom and Myrtle feel in their current relationships and why they are yet married. (page 33-34)
- Later on towards the end of their party, Tom and Myrtle get into a fight about whether Myrtle should be able to say Daisy's name. Tom gets so enraged he "broke her nose with his open hand." (page 37)
