- Prolonged Exposure = Memory Loss
- Early life adversity includes exposure tounusual environmental circumstances where the child experiences high levels ofstress, eventually resulting in psychological and behavioral abnormalities.
- Fight or Flight
- High five!!
- Oh no!!
- These experiences greatly affect the child’s cognitive development by increasing the amount of cortisol in the brain and hindering their ability to make decisions and increasing impulsivity.
- Learning Enviroment
- The hippocampus is responsible for memory, but in a traumatized brain this shrinks and often leads to memory loss.
- Inappropriate Behavior at School
- I HATE SCHOOL!!! I'M NOT DOING THIS ANYMORE!!
- The amygdala, is responsible for our “fight or flight” response and allows us to think rationally about a situation. When this is damaged it becomes hyperactive, thus resulting in irrational and impulsive behaviors.
- OUCH!!!
- None of this is beneficial to a child in alearning environment
- When they get frustrated, they do not have theability to regulate their emotions and will often act in an inappropriatemanner or lash out.
