  • THOMAS HART BENTON !!!
  • Two centuries and thirty-seven years ago, deep in the rural back roads of Missouri, an oblivious mother gave birth to the roughest, toughest, most ruthless politician Missouri had ever seen...
  • goo goo
  • Thomas slowly acquired his physically and mentally thick-skinned character throughout his years working in the fields and fighting for the Union on the battle field. He was burly, brawny, and able to maintain an intimidatingly built frame- well known for his strength, size, and unwavering morale.
  • SURRENDER NOW
  • okay okay sorry
  • grrr
  • Tired of the rural life and inspired by a war-based newfound love for his country and the Union, Benton set out for the city to bring his passion, power, persuasion, and political prowess to the Senate floor.
  • Without my slaves, who on earth will comb my hair?
  • Without unity and equality there is no NATION!
  • With a sharp tongue and even sharper wit, Benton quickly became a prominent political figure by fearlessly defending and supporting any issues he felt should be heard by the masses.
  • Senator Benton! Without relenting to your followers, you will be a senator without a nation!
  • This man is dangerous...
  • I WANT MY SLAVES!
  • Through fiery speeches, aggressive campaigns, and an unwaivering faith to both his morale and country, Thomas Benton gained immense popularity and was even dubbed the "Kingpin of Missouri Politics" during his prime. A man of impressive intellect and stature, Benton reigned as a supreme source of political power from 1821-1844, an undeniably progressive powerhouse of change inside and outside of the debate floor.
  • wow thanks dad that really cleared it up...
  • i have no idea what that man is saying
  • Although Benton enjoyed a supple amount of success, in 1835, disaster struck. Although Benton was from a southern state, he did not support allowing slavery in the newly gained Western territories. His refusal to comply with the southern states' wants cost him nearly all of his supporters both inside and outside of the Senate. However, a man of his word, Benton fought with his every last breath in order to support what he believed was right.
  • Calhoun, before I give in to your money-thirsty and blood hungry ways, I will give in to Death himself at my door.
  • what a weirdo smh
  • Well it's your political career not mine so.. go right ahead?
  • Children, quiet. He's speaking of the worthlessness of instant fame, acquired without work and lost without reason...
  • "I value solid popularity—the esteem of good men for good action. I despise the bubble popularity that is won without merit and lost without crime."
