  • If.. in trouble hide in the brush.
  • If you get in trouble hide in the brush till I come, repeat after me.
  • Loneliness
  • Lonelyness can make a man go insane. You have no one to talk to.
  • Dreams
  • We will get our own place and live of the fadd of the land.
  • George cares for Lennie and doesn't want him to get hurt. As his friend George tries to make it easier for Lennie. George tries to protect Lennie the best he can. Friends look out for each other and try to protect one another.
  • Companionship
  • Tell it George
  • Guys like us have no one that cares, but we are different because we have each other.
  • Crook breaks down after messing with Lennie about George not coming back. He says you have someone I have no one. You get to have someone to talk to and listen to. He only allows Lennie to stay in his room because he is very lonely on the ranch.
  • Powerlessness
  • I could have you killed if you tell. Remember your place.
  • ...
  • George and Lennie have this one dream that seems almost impossible. They want to get their own place, with their own crops and animals. This fuels them to work from ranch to ranch. It gives them a goal and something to aim for.
  • Barriers
  • How would you feel if you were stuck out here because you were black. And they said you stink because your skin color.
  • George and Lennie travel around with each other and they take care of one another. George and Lennie are close friends and have known each other for a while. They are different from others because they have each other.
  • Due to Crooks being black, he is looked at and talked down to. Racism is something that is around a lot during this time. Blacks don't have much power and can't really go against anyone. If they try people point out how powerless they are to keep them down.
  • May things in the play are kept from Lennie. Due to Lennie's disability, he doesn't understand racism. There are many barriers around Lennie protecting him from the actual world. He never really pays for his actions and he doesn't seem to understand most things. Lennie has always had these barriers thanks to George.
