  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU.
  • A man named winston walks up a staircase in the Victory Mansions.
  • He writes in a diary away from the telescreen. He finds it as an escape and way to show his emotion.
  • What does she mean?
  • At work one morning, a woman falls as he is walking and she hands him a note saying the words "I love you."
  • Winston meets Julia in an isolated area. They get to know each other and make love in the bushes.
  • I wanted to push my ex-wife off a cliff.
  • Over the coming weeks, Winston and Julia set up meetings to talk to eachother. Winston describes his hatred towards his ex-wife.
  • While at work, Winston changes a name of an official on an article from Comrade Withers to Comarade Ogilvy. Comrade Withers was said to be vaporized by Big Brother.
  • Winston has lunch with a person he met named Syme. Syme had forbidden knowledge about big brother and Winston was afraid Syme would be vaporized for having such knowledge.
  • Winston and Julia secretly meet in the room they rented above a shop start and contemplate about leaving. They know they should leave or risk being caught and tortured if any officials find out.
  • Winston and Julia take a trip to a man named O'Brien. He tells them about the Brotherhood and asks them to join the group. The Brotherhood is a rebellion.
  • Here take this copy of the Manifesto of the Revolution.
  • Winston starts to read the manifesto in he and Julia's rented room and learns about Oceania and the war. As Winston is reading, Julia enters the room and lays in bed with him as he is reading and she falls asleep.
  • Julia wakes up the next morning, there is a red armed woman outside singing. Winston then wakes up and they both look out the window. Knowing their doom, they saw "We are the dead". A voice then emits from the telescreen saying, "You are the dead". Troops then break into the room. As Winston and Julia are being beaten, Winston spots Mr.Charrington, the owner of the shop below their room, standing with the troops.
  • Winston is put in a cell. He hopes that he will be given a razor blade so that he can take his own life. He is worried that he will have to betray Julia. O'Brien then walks in his cell and Winston finds out that he has been an operative for the Ministry of Love all along.
  • They got you too?
  • They got me long ago.
  • O'Brien tortures Winston, saying the torture will cure him. Winston is forced to love O'Brien and believe anything he says. He is told by O'Brien that Julia betrayed him immediately. Winston also asks if Big Brother does exist, O'Brien then says "Winston does not exist."
  • O'Brien tells Winston to look in the mirror and Winston noticed that he was in terrible condition. Winston blames O'Brien for his condition. O'Brien says that he knew this would happen the second he started that diary. He says not to worry as he will be cured of his conditions.
  • After some time, Winston is transferred to a new room that is more comfortable. He still constantly thinks about Julia and whishes that he could see her again. He regrets going against the party alone and starts to make himself believe in the party. He bottles up his hatred and tries not to recognize it, but the hatred is still in him. He tells one of the guards that he still hates Big Brother. O'Brien then says that he will have to obey and love Big Brother and then constructs the guards to take him to room 101.
  • In room 101, Winston is strapped to a chair. O'Brien then says that someones worst fear is in room 101. There was a big cage of rats since Winston was terrified by them. He was told that if he betrays Julia that the torture will stop and he shall be free. Winston gave up and betrayed Julia.
  • Winston is now free. He goes to the Chestnut cafe to enjoy some drinks. He and Julia talked about how they betrayed each other and decided that it was better to not be in a relationship anymore. Winston starts crying over the memories of the past and how things have changed. He then looks up to a picture of Big Brother on the Telescreen and enjoys his newfound love for Big Brother,
