- The Nazi's break into Josef's house, and they make Josef's father go to a concentration camp. Josef tries to save his father but the Nazi's grab him and tell him that he would go to a concentration camp someday.

- A few days later the Nazi's tell Josef's family that they have to leave Germany in fourteen days or they will go to concentration camps. The Nazi's say that if they leave in fourteen days they will be reunited with Josef's father. After fourteen days Josef's family leaves their home and goes to the train to go to their ship. Josef tries to buy Ruthie, his younger sister, a candy. He gets caught by a Nazi youth. Thankfully the Nazi youth lets Josef go, and they safely arrive at their ship.

- They meet Josef's father by the doxk, but his head is shaved, and he acts paranoid. He runs up the dock towards the ship saying that they have to go quick because the Nazi's are coming. Josef's mom apologizes to the man in the ticket booth, and gives him everybody's tickets. They get on the boat, and they get settled in. Josef thinks it is like a paradise because people are so nice.
