- Safie’s father was falsely accused of a crime. Felix visited them whilst they were imprisoned and happened to meet his daughter, of which he fell in love.
- Safie wanted marry a man of European origin and thereby escape a slave life in Turkey.
- Felix successfully aided in Safie's father’s escape, but the plot was discovered, Felix, Agatha, and De Lacey were exiled and stripped of wealth.
- Her father tried to force Safie to return with him to Constantinople.
- She escaped with some jewels and little money. Her attendant fell ill and died on the journey. However Safie discovered the knowledge of Felix’s whereabouts.
- Felix's family then moved into the cottage in Germany. Where the monster first discovered them.
