- Valerine is a vampire born during the purple moon and is considered an icon of unlucky as a normal vampire would be born on the red moon. She is the hero of this story and this can be shown through the difference in her birth.
- After 2000 years of being bullied and tortured by the vampire clan, she judges that she has had enough. She decides to run away from her home of the vampire clan of Perte Paris into the human world of Paris, France.
- When she is leaving in the secrecy of the night, Lilith, her motherly figure that protected her and cared for her needs while she was still in the vampire clan, tries to stop her saying that it is too dangerous.
- Valerine understands that this journey is dangerous and is still willing to go. Seeing her determination Lillith volunteers to take her to Paris and show her how to get used to the human world.
- Valerine finally crosses the threshold and begins to wonder into the human world. Here, she meets Luciel, an ally in the story.
- She starts working at a mansion that Lillith suggests she works in, which is Luciel's. She meets Phillipe, the horse caretaker who likes dad jokes, and Nathaniel, a hiding red vampire who works for Luciel as a butler.
