- Mum, at school we have been learning about the different types of cyberbullying and I have just heard an example of “masquerading” first hand!
- Good boy for telling me Andrew but what exactly is masquerading?
- Masquerading is when a bully makes up a fake identity and then harasses someone without them knowing who it is!
- Oh goodness! That is very concerning Andrew. I am very proud of you for telling me. I will come with you tomorrow to the Principals office. In the meantime, do not respond or take part in any of the conversations. Take screen shots so you don't lose the evidence.
- What should we do Mum? I know that I need to tell an adult so we can put a stop to cyberbullying together!
- This boy in my class has made a fake profile and is harassing my friend Johnny! We also learnt that this type of cyberbullying can cause the victim to feel depressed, isolated and humiliated, so I am very worried!
- I am very proud of you Andrew for helping to keep your friends safe on line and for telling a trusted adult. Masquerading is a form of cyberbullying and together we can stop this from happening again.
