- Sounds like dogs might have a better understanding of human social cues than wolves. They recognize that eye contact and gaze can be a form of communication!
- Researchers have compared the reactions of modern day dogs and wolves when faced with an unsolvable task in order to see how they differ from each other. Dogs and wolves were both taught that these bowls have food in them, then a lid was placed on the top of the bowl so that only somebody with opposable thumbs could get to the food.
- In 2003, Adam Miklosi and colleagues claimed that their findings which showed that dogs understood human communication better than chimpanzees, and turned to humans for help faster and more often than wolves are likely due to factors related to the domestication of dogs. Dogs were selected for their ability to respond to human communication and built mutually beneficial relationships with humans, which explains why they look to humans for help when they cannot do something themselves.
